  President Sharon McNair's Welcome

The Las Vegas Rotary Club, established in April 5, 1923, is part of the worldwide fellowship of Rotary International. This international service organization has a membership of more than 1.2 million members, in 200 countries, with 32,000 clubs throughout the world.

The 2011-2012 theme for Rotary International, "Reach Within to Embrace Humanity” is very fitting for the Las Vegas Rotary Club. In presenting this theme, International President Kalyan Banerjee focuses on three emphases – the family, continuity and change. As I reflect on the qualities of our Las Vegas Rotary members, Rotarians from the Las Vegas Rotary Club embody these qualities. Rotary's high ideals of fellowship, international understanding, and service are applied in our personal, business and community lives by over 140 members of the Las Vegas Rotary Club. Our members meet weekly for fellowship and to discuss and plan service projects both at home and globally. Please take a few minutes to browse through our website for information about our club activities and service projects.

Proudly, Rotary International is the leading service organization working with the World Health Organization, United Nations, UNICEF, the Gates Foundation and governmental agencies in the effort to eradicate polio from the face of the earth. The Rotary PolioPlus initiative began in 1985. Since then, Rotarians have spent over 800 million dollars and supplied countless volunteer hours to immunize more than two billion children in 122 countries. Today, the only countries not declared "Polio Free" are Pakistan, Afghanistan, India and Nigeria. Polio is still crippling children in these four countries. In this global world we live in, polio can easily jump borders and is only a plane ride away. As long as it is circulating somewhere in the world, the threat of an outbreak remains. Rotary will fulfill its promise to the world to eradicate polio. If you would like to join us in our efforts to eradicate polio by making a donation, please contact myself or any member of the Las Vegas Rotary Club.

The Las Vegas Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon at Lawry's, The Prime Rib located at 4043 Howard Hughes Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89169. We look forward to welcoming visiting Rotarians and potential new members.

Sincerely,

Sharon McNair
President 2011-2012
